In 1922 Jack Kerouac was born. The author of a few books before his death in 1967 but best known of course for the seminal sign post in Beat Literature On The Road.

On The Road was the world's introduction to the likes of William S. Burroughs and Neal Cassidy (a.k.a. Dean Moriarty) who would then be one of the few to actaully bridge the generation gap when he moved from being the Beat driver to taking the helm of Further as "Cowboy Neal at the wheel on the bus to never, never, land" with Ken Kesey's Merry Band of Pranksters in tow.
Interesting morsel, Kerouac was the son of French-Canadian parents and learned English as a second language.
